Monday Morning Reviews

on March 10, 2014

Goodness, the time is just dissapearing at a rather rapid pace at the moment, it feels like there is just not enough time to read at the moment! But I have managed to read a couple of good books lately. The first was:

The Elephant Whisperer – Lawrence Anthony

This was a beautiful read! I am always amazed at how some people just have a natural affinity to live in Africa’s bush and be with wild animals. To stand in that awesomeness which is the wild. This book looks at how Lawrence takes in a herd of angry at humans elephants and how they begin to trust him. It is an awe inspiring book and I urge you read it.

Making Finn – Susan Newham-Blake

This is also a true story about a woman who finally deals with the fact that she prefers woman to men and consolidates that with her need for having a baby. I really enjoyed this book as it shows the anxst of dealing with two opposing ideas of what we think of as ‘normal’. It also tells us of her baby making process…I would highly recommend it.

Inferno – Dan Brown

This typical Dan Brown, about how a scientist takes on the world, with a virus, which no one knows about until the very last minute, in order to cull the population. High speed and high energy with a much art and architecture thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed it, and I think even if you haven’t read any of his books before you should enjoy it. I have to admit to skim reading through some of his book though when the descriptions were a little too long winded. Based on Dante’s Inferno, this is an interesting read. If you have read it, what did you think?

And now onto you, what have you read lately, anything good??

I also loved The Elephant Whisperer. Couldn’t put it down!

Want to reading Making Finn, but not really a Dan Brown fan. maybe i should try him again. The last time I tried was when that other novel of his was a big hit – altho cannot remember it now?

Have just finished JoJo Moyes One Plus One. A very easy, but thought provoking read. Notwhere near as good as Me before you, but a lovely read nontheless.

And currently busy with The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Wow. Read it. I know you’ll love it.

    Love you xxx

  2. I haven’t read any of those, though they all sound quite good. I used to read some Dan Brown and enjoyed it, but after a few books I felt his writing was rather formulaic. Couldn’t get into The Lost Symbol at all, for example. But Inferno DOES sound interesting…

I’ve also been having a hard time reading. Things are very very busy. But I did just finish reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. It is really cool! And thrilling! Wow. And a quick read. I’ve been reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s The Signature of All Things for a looong time. Really good book but doesn’t go quickly.

I enjoyed The Elephant Whisperer too. I recently read the Ken Follett books Pillars of the Earth and World Without End – both of which I loved!

This morning I finished The Hundred Foot Journey by Morais which was also a great read if you are looking for something else.

I believe it’s been made into a movie and wanted to read it first.

  4. I also enjoyed Pillars of the Earth but then I couldn’t read World without End, it just felt so long and same like. As for The Hundred Foot Journey, I love that book and how awesome that there is to be a movie?!

  5. His writing is quite formulaic I have to agree with you, but I do like the subjects he uses in Inferno. I also read Elizabeth Gilbert’s Signature of all things, I also enjoyed it but as you say, not a quick read!

  6. Will def read The Fault in our stars, I have actually been meaning to read it but have kept forgetting about it when going to the library. Will Remember Next Time! Love youxxx

  7. Have not read any of them although hubby has read the Elephant whisperer – more his type of book than mine. I was totally drawn onto “The fault in our stars” and loved ‘The last letter from your lover” by Jojo Moyes. With her I just think one has to forget about “Me before you” -there will never be one that compares, and enjoy the others for what they are.
